JAKARTA – Facing the challenges of energy transition and development, PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI) invites young engineers to contribute to developing the national electricity system. The invitation was made by the Main Director of PLN EPI Iwan Agung Firstantara when conducting “PLN Teaching” at the Faculty of Engineering, Gajah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta.

Iwan emphasized that the role of engineers is crucial to sustain economic growth. “Engineers have an important role in developing clean technology that can help preserve the environment,” said Iwan in his statement, Wednesday (30/8/2023).

PLN EPI itself, said Iwan, has an important role in maintaining the energy supply chain for power plant raw materials. The practice of maintaining the supply chain, he said, cannot be separated from the role of engineers. As one of the engineers graduated from UGM, Iwan also encourages the involvement of engineers to participate in developing electrical systems and building the nation.

“PLN has formed 4 sub-holdings, one of which is PLN EPI, with the main role as a primary energy provider to meet the needs of power plants as well as consolidating procurement and logistics processes, searching for primary energy sources, developing resilient ecosystems and strong supply chains,” he said.

On this occasion, Iwan said that several PLN projects were the result of his and the team’s work. For example, developing the Java 7 Ultra Super Critical PLTU technology. Through a scientific background, PLN is able to make PLTUs that are efficient and environmentally friendly. “This project involves more than 3,000 workers with more than 20 partner companies with an investment value of IDR 27.5 trillion,” he explained.

Iwan continued, the Cirata Floating PLTS is also one of the nation’s best creations. The PLTS installed in the Cirata Reservoir, Purwakarta, West Java, is an Independent Power Producer (IPP) project, a collaboration between PT PJBI and MASDAR, a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company, an investment company owned by the Government of the UAE. With an investment of USD 129 million, the floating PLTS is projected to produce 250 GWh/year of electricity.

With the potential for abundant natural resources in Indonesia, emphasized Iwan, the future of Indonesia’s energy security rests on the shoulders of today’s young engineers. “Therefore, young people must become individuals who are willing to learn and have high nationalism. The future of the nation rests on the shoulders of the younger generation,” he stressed.
