Uber Revenue Accounting leader Announces Departure After Nine Years of Exponential Growth
After nearly a decade of transformative growth and billions of completed trips, a key figure in Uber’s financial infrastructure is preparing to embark on a new professional chapter. The leader of Uber’s Revenue Accounting team, Eric, announced their departure, wiht a final day slated for November 17.
The departing executive expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of the team and gratitude for the individuals who contributed to its success. “Its been the ride of a lifetime,” they stated.
When Eric joined uber, Revenue Accounting was a modest operation centered in San Francisco. Today, it has evolved into a nearly 100-person global association with a significant presence in San francisco, Dallas, Chile, India, and Mexico City.This expansion reflects uber’s own global reach and increasing complexity.
A cornerstone of this growth was the development of a fully automated revenue ecosystem. The team spearheaded the creation of key systems including uRevenue, uSettle, and uPartner, alongside the transition to Banker and the launch of GAP – a system delivering comprehensive trip-level accounting for both generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal management reporting. According to a company release, this infrastructure is “one that few companies ever achieve.”
The executive’s tenure coincided with several pivotal moments in Uber’s history. These included the launch of Uber Freight and the scaling of Uber eats, preparation for one of the largest IPOs in history, and navigating complex regulatory landscapes such as AB5 and Prop 22. The team also played a crucial role in supporting Uber’s global expansion through numerous mergers and acquisitions.
The challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic were also a defining period. The executive highlighted the resilience of the teams during this time, and the subsequent wave of innovation that propelled Uber forward, including ventures like Uber Ads and Uber One.
However, the departing leader emphasized that the most enduring aspect of their time at Uber was the people. “What I’ll remember most are the people – the collaboration, creativity, and commitment to excellence.”
