SYRACUSE, Jan. 24, 2024 – A hockey game on Wednesday will do more than entertain fans; it will directly address childhood hunger in Central New York. Erin’s Angels of Central New York is partnering with the Syracuse Crunch for a Hockey night Fundraiser at 7 p.m., when the Crunch take on the Utica Comets at the Upstate Medical University Arena.
Fighting Food Insecurity with Face-Offs
The event aims to raise funds to combat childhood hunger and its impact on education in the region.

- A silent online auction, accessible via text or QR code at the game, will feature Caribbean resort vacations and items donated by the Crunch and Erin’s Angels.

Childhood hunger is a pervasive issue, directly impacting a child’s ability to succeed in school. According to the Food Bank of Central New York, a staggering one in five children in Central and Northern New York is food insecure, creating a meaningful obstacle to thier overall well-being.
“Hunger is one of the biggest barriers a child can face,” said Lu Hart, VP Board of Directors, Erin’s Angels of CNY. “When kids go to bed hungry, they start the school day at a disadvantage. This fundraiser allows the community to come together and help remove those barriers so students can learn and thrive.”
Fans attending the Syracuse Crunch versus the Utica Comets game will have the possibility to participate in a silent online auction. To join, attendees can send a text message to a number provided by the team or scan a QR code displayed on the scoreboard or at The Crunch Foundation table on the concourse.

The auction’s centerpiece is a collection of four Caribbean resort vacations donated by Elite Certificates, valued between $3,150 and $4,350. The getaways include family-amiable trips to Antigua and Panama, as well as adults-only escapes to Barbados and Antigua.

Funds raised will bolster Erin’s Angels’ weekend meal programs and in-school food access initiatives, ensuring students have consistent access to nutrition outside of school hours. Thes programs are designed to help children remain focused, engaged, and better prepared to learn.
Founded in 2017, Erin’s Angels of CNY currently provides weekend meal bags to every student in need within the Phoenix Central School District.the organization also extends its outreach to support other school districts and community programs.
