Erode / Chennai: Today (Feb 10) is the last day to withdraw nominations for the Erode East assembly by-election. Ministers and AIADMK executives are actively campaigning there.

Filing of nominations in this constituency started on 31st of last month and ended on 7th. A total of 96 candidates, including Congress, AIADMK, DMD, Nam Tamilar, AAMUK and independent candidates, had filed 121 petitions. The nominations were considered the day before yesterday. In this, 38 petitions including the nomination of OPS team candidate Senthil Murugan were dismissed.

83 petitions from EVKS Elangovan (Congress), KS Thennarasu (ADMK), Anand (DMK), Menaka Navaneethan (Nam Tamil), Siva Prashanth (AMMK) and independent candidates were accepted.

Time has been given till 3 pm today (Feb 10) to withdraw nominations. While DTV.Thinakaran has announced that he will not contest in the by-elections as he has not been allotted the cooker symbol, AAM candidate Siva Prashanth is going to withdraw his nomination today. The final list of candidates will be released this evening. Voting will be held on the 27th and the counting of votes will be held on March 2.

In this case, more than 25 ministers are actively campaigning in support of EVKS.Elangovan. Similarly, former ministers from AIADMK are also actively campaigning. DMD candidate Anand and Naam Tamil candidate Maneka Navaneethan are also collecting votes.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin is campaigning on the streets in support of Congress candidate EVKS.Elangovan on 24th and 25th.

Chief Minister Stalin, who will visit Erode on the 24th, will hold a meeting with ministers and district secretaries at Shakti Sugars guest house there. Later, he starts campaigning in Cuttakatu Valasu area. Subsequently, he will campaign in various parts of the constituency on 24th and 25th. Similarly, Minister Udayanidhi Stalin will campaign on the 20th.
