The recent incident related to the prevention of attempted illegal border crossings in the regions covered by the European Union (EU) monitoring mission in Armenia seriously casts a shadow on its mission.

As Day.Az reports on Monday, this is stated in a message from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

It was noted that such alarming activities are in no way consistent with the stated objectives of the said mission to contribute to building faith and trust as a neutral actor.

“A serious call was made within the EU to take all necessary measures to ensure that the mission stationed on the territory of Armenia operates as a neutral, civilian and unarmed mission in accordance with its stated mandate, and to refrain from any activities directed against the sovereignty, territorial integrity Azerbaijan, or which will in one way or another affect its legitimate security interests,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
