Rail Net Europe, RNE, and the Common Rail Undertaking of Europe, EU-Rail, have signed an agreement to promote an integrated and high-capacity European rail network, removing barriers to favor interoperability.

(02/06/2023)

The collaboration facilitated by this agreement will cover traffic management and capacity allocation, data exchange and communication, rail-related infrastructure and services, to achieve greater efficiency, faster adoption and development of projects and innovations, and to harness the enormous potential of digitization and automation to reduce rail costs, increase its capacity, and improve its flexibility and reliability.

Aim

The aim of the agreement is to ensure knowledge sharing and collaboration in three areas that are crucial for the European rail sector:

1- Pillar of the European Union rail system, following the mandate to develop a unified operating concept and a functional, safe and secure system architecture, as well as cooperation with the emblematic areas of the European rail network, more specifically FA1 Planning and network and mobility management control and FA5 Green, digital and competitive sustainable rail freight service.

2- Research and development of innovative solutions, including the necessary experience and commitment from the sector and the guarantee that the concepts and solutions designed are interoperable and that legacy solutions can be migrated according to a clear strategy.

3- Ongoing sectoral initiatives, specifically digital infrastructure information, schedule redesign, digital capacity management, digital train information, including track and trace, traffic management and information technology architecture, among others.
