Even though Tamil and Telugu are available, only Malayalam movies are enough for them; Malavika Mohanan shares her experience

by time news

Actress Malavika Mohanan says that Malayalam cinema is getting huge audience support outside Kerala and thinks that more realistic films are being made here.

The actress made her comments during an interview with Film Companion South. Malavika made her comment by mentioning her non-Malayalee friend’s passion for Malayalam cinema.

“A friend of mine who lives in Mumbai only watches Malayalam movies. He is not a Malayali. Why, not even a Southerner. I sometimes suggest Tamil and Telugu movies to him. After watching it, he would say that it was fine, but the next moment he would ask, ‘Let’s see a Malayalam film.’

I have wondered why they are so interested in Malayalam cinema. They say Malayalam cinema is a bit more realistic. Such movies are more connectable to them. They say that movies that are close to real life come here. “It’s surprising that such films have made such a big impact outside Kerala,” said Malavika.

She added that heroines in Malayalam films are portrayed very differently and the use of unnecessary make-up is less common here.

Malavika’s latest upcoming film is Christie directed by debutant Alvin Henty. Mathew Thomas plays the lead role in the film which will hit the theaters on February 17.

The film follows the teenage Matthew’s character falling in love with an older woman and the interesting events that follow. Benjamin and Indu Gopan are writing the script for the film.
