An event of memory and honor to the leader, candidate, friendly and member of parliament Ioannis Papadiamantopoulos, loyal soldier and guardian of Greek Independence, is organized by the Municipality of North Tzoumerko on Saturday, May 11, at 7 pm, in Plaisia ​​Square.


Ioannis Papadiamantopoulos (1766-1826), originally from Plaisia ​​Katsanochoria, was commercially active in Patras, acquiring a huge fortune. His grandfather was hunted by the Turks and settled in Aitoliko where he died. He had two sons, George and Anastasis, who settled in Patras and changed their surname from Margaritis to Papa-Diamantopoulos (children of Papa-Diamantis).
Ioannis Papadiamantopoulos was involved in the raisin trade, the trade in agricultural products, he traveled to European ports, made a very large fortune and was the richest Patrino during the years of the Revolution.
He financed ships for the Galaxidiotes, founded a bank, acquired 30 shops in Patras, owned half of the real estate in the area of ​​Saravali and Agios Dimitrios, where today a square has been created with his name.
During that period, the political leader of the free besieged would march unchained to sacrifice and holocaust, participating in the immortal heroic exodus on the night of April 10-11, 1826. There he was captured and beheaded.
In Plaisia ​​Square, where his father Georgios Margaritis and his grandfather, Papa-Diamantis, came from, his emblematic bust has been placed, with the Municipality of Boreion Tzoumerka completing the tribute and memory by organizing the event.
The event will begin with addresses and greetings, to be followed by a memorial service and laying of wreaths. A speech will be delivered by the president of the Historical and Ethnological Society of Peloponnese, lawyer and author Christos Moulias.
Then a dance program will be presented by the Educational Club of the Holy City of Messolonghi “Free Besieged” with a traditional orchestra of Messolonghi. The photo exhibition “Exit” by Nikos Siamos will also be presented in the space. The event is coordinated by the mandated municipal councilor for Culture, Education & Sports, Elisavet Bouchora.
Co-organizers of the event are the Municipal Community of Plaisia ​​and the Cultural Association of Plaisia, which will provide a buffet.
