The Minister of Economy, Commerce and Business, Carlos Body, conveyed this Thursday to foreign investors that Spain is an economy that can be trusted and that it has a Government “with a clear strategy” to give continuity to the economic policy that it has allowed it to overcome the recent crises. Body has made these statements despite the chaos of parliamentary support in which the Government lives, subjected to the incredible demands of a fugitive from Justice such as Carles Puigdemont.

“We are determined to continue with an economic policy that reinforces investor confidence in our economy, based on social justice, competitiveness and fiscal responsibility,” said Corporal during his speech at the “Spain Investors Day.” “Business confidence in Spain remains strong despite the uncertainties in the international economic context,” stressed the minister, who also pointed out the window of opportunity represented by the arrival of European funds for recovery.

According to Carlos Body, Spain has been a “pioneer” from the beginning in the deployment of funds, already receiving three disbursements for a total of 37,000 million. In addition, the fourth disbursement has already been requested for another additional 10,000 million and more than 33,000 million euros have been granted so far in subsidies and tenders. “If you look at the specific speed of the disbursements or the execution of some of the funds, I think everything is going according to plan, in the sense that it is not so much about the funds arriving this quarter or the next quarter or the one before that , but rather it is a medium-term plan,” defended the minister, after being asked about the obvious delays in the deployment of these funds.

From their point of view, what is important is a good selection of projects and good execution of the Recovery Plan. “Whether it arrives in January, last December or next February, I think it is not relevant,” he insisted. He has also highlighted that he will follow the path set by his predecessor in office, Nadia Calviño, delving into reforms that increase the productivity and competitiveness of the business sector, with the commitment to continue reducing deficit and debt, and with measures focused on the most vulnerable. .

Regarding future measures, he has only advanced his wish that in the coming weeks the draft Law of the Financial Client Defense Authority can be approved again, which declined in the previous legislature due to the call for early elections.

Body has had a few words of remembrance for the former president of Telefónica César Alierta, who he has assured has been an “extremely important” representative of the Spanish business sector, as well as an “example of leadership and entrepreneurship.”
