Former ASDP Director Ira Puspadewi Released from Prison Following Presidential Rehabilitation
A former director of the Indonesian ferry operator ASDP, Ira Puspadewi, has been released from detention after receiving rehabilitation granted by President Prabowo Subianto. Puspadewi walked free from the KPK Red and White Detention Center in South Jakarta on Friday, November 28, 2025, marking a significant turn in her legal battle and sparking reflection on gratitude and faith.
A Dark Chapter and a Lesson in Gratitude
Puspadewi described the profound hardship of incarceration, emphasizing a newfound appreciation for everyday freedoms. “It turns out that we have not been grateful all this time. What we consider normal, what you consider normal today, be grateful,” she stated during a thanksgiving event held in Jatiwarna, Bekasi City, on Saturday, November 29, 2025. She recounted the isolating and bleak conditions of her confinement, highlighting the psychological toll of prolonged darkness and solitude.
The former director detailed the stark reality of her detention room – a small, windowless space approximately 3×3 meters where she spent three days alone. “Yes, if it’s like this, where are we going to run? If we’re in a dark isolation room…we’re alone for three days, there are no friends, where else are we going? Just talking to God,” she explained. Initially, Puspadewi admitted to struggling with despair and questioning divine intervention. However, she ultimately found solace in faith and a renewed understanding of acceptance. “But then with this incident, I was taught an extraordinary lesson. Never dictate to Allah what the best way is,” she shared, acknowledging the unexpected path to freedom facilitated by President Subianto’s intervention.
Positive Conditions of Detention & Expressions of Gratitude
Puspadewi also praised the treatment she received while in KPK custody, noting the professionalism and kindness of the officers. “The service is very good, and the service of the officers is also good,” she told journalists. This sentiment was echoed by two other former ASDP directors, Harry Muhammad Adhi Caksono and M Yusuf Hadi, who also benefited from the presidential rehabilitation. Adhi Caksono emphasized that the KPK “humanizes us,” ensuring prisoners retain fundamental rights to worship, exercise, and maintain social connections.
Puspadewi revealed she first learned of the rehabilitation news while in detention, during a television broadcast as she prepared to break her fast. “At that time I was breaking my fast…then suddenly there was breaking news and I couldn’t eat. Because I didn’t believe that God’s grace was being sent down to us through the hands of the President,” she recalled, expressing deep gratitude to President Subianto for his decision.
Financial Hardship Following Release
Despite her release, Puspadewi faces ongoing financial challenges. She revealed that her accounts, along with those of her husband and children, remain blocked. “To this day, all my accounts are still blocked…But that same day, I only had IDR 1.2 million in my money,” she stated. However, she was touched by the generosity of friends and former colleagues who provided immediate assistance. “Suddenly a friend…gave IDR 5 million, ‘This is for food, for temporary shopping’,” she recounted, highlighting the support she received during a difficult time. She also noted the isolation she experienced during the height of the case, with many acquaintances avoiding contact out of fear.
Acknowledging Support and Looking Forward
In her public statements following her release, Puspadewi extended her heartfelt thanks to President Prabowo Subianto for granting her rehabilitation. “We express our highest thanks and appreciation to Mr. President Prabowo Subianto,” she said at the KPK detention center on Friday, November 28, 2025. She also expressed gratitude to Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, and the officers of the KPK for their service during her nearly ten months in detention.
