Chennai: A 39-year-old woman has been arrested for killing her ex-boyfriend and dismembering his body and burying it in Chennai’s Kovalam. Sex worker G. Bhagyalakshmi, a native of Pudukottai, was arrested. M. Jayanthan, the ground staff of Chennai International Airport, was killed. The police also said that another person helped in the murder.

Jayanthan lived with his sister’s family near Nanganallur in Chennai. Jayanthan’s sister had lodged a complaint with the Pazhavantangal police stating that her brother had been missing since March 18 and his mobile phone was switched off. On March 20, the police registered an FIR and started an investigation.

Based on the call recordings and other evidence, it was found that Jayanthan had gone to see Bhagyalakshmi and that they had a relationship. Bhagyalakshmi, who gave contradictory statements when questioned, later confessed to the murder.

“Bhagyalakshmi is a sex worker. Jayanthan used to go to them. Bhagyalakshmi says that the two got married two years ago in a temple and later got separated. It is not clear whether Jayanthan’s family knew about their relationship,” said a senior investigating officer.

On March 18, Jayanthan had gone to Pudukottai to meet Bhagyalakshmi. Bhagyalakshmi claims that she killed Jayanthan with the help of another person. After cutting the body into pieces, they put it in a plastic bag and brought it to Kovalam and left it. The police said that they are searching for others involved in the murder.
