Patrick Beverley Faces Felony Assault Charge, Denies sister’s Allegations
A disturbing series of accusations have surfaced against NBA veteran Patrick Beverley, alleging a violent confrontation with his sister. The former Philadelphia 76ers guard, currently facing a third-degree felony assault charge in Texas, vehemently denies the claims, stating the incident has been misrepresented.
The allegations stem from an incident on November 14th in Fort Bend County, Texas, where Beverley, 37, was arrested and charged with assault involving impeding breath – a serious domestic violence offense under Texas law. According to reports obtained by TMZ Sports, the incident unfolded after Beverley’s sister allegedly left home without permission to meet her boyfriend at a nearby park. Upon her return, her mother reportedly instructed her to call the boyfriend back to the residence, and afterward contacted Beverley.
an affidavit details a harrowing account of the alleged confrontation.Upon arriving at the family home, Beverley allegedly confronted his sister, then grabbed her by the neck with both hands, lifting her off the ground. The sister told investigators the pressure caused pain and difficulty breathing. She further alleges that Beverley dragged her out of the bedroom by the neck, slamming her into hallway walls, placing her on a sofa, and punching her in the left eye with a closed fist. A chilling claim also alleges Beverley threatened to be the “family relative to kill her.”
Responding officers documented visible neck marks and petechiae – burst blood vessels in her eyes – often associated with strangulation, according to reports.Beverley was subsequently booked into Fort Bend County Jail.
Following his release on $40,000 bail, Beverley took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the situation, writing, “Please don’t believe everything you see on the internet. Hope all is well Luv❤️🙏🏾.” His legal counsel later issued a more detailed statement, asserting Beverley’s innocence.
“Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister – a minor,” the statement read. “When he unexpectedly found her alone in the home with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night,he reacted as any protective brother would. Though,we don’t believe what followed happened the way it’s been described. We look forward to addressing this in court.” Beverley is scheduled to appear before a judge in the coming weeks.
This arrest is the latest in a string of recent controversies for the veteran guard. prior to his legal troubles, Beverley faced criticism for a podcast exchange with former NBA player jason Williams, where they made crude references to Klay Thompson’s girlfriend, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, prompting a strong rebuke from Thompson, who called the comments “nauseating and disturbing.” Beverley also faced a civil lawsuit stemming from an incident during the 2024 NBA playoffs while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, where he threw a basketball into the stands and struck a fan, resulting in a four-game suspension that remains unserved.
Beverley’s 2023-24 season saw him play 47 games for the Philadelphia 76ers, averaging 6.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 32.1% from three-point range. He showcased flashes of his signature intensity, including a career-high-tying 26-point performance against the Boston Celtics and a season-high 11 assists against the Denver Nuggets. He was traded to the Bucks in February of last year.
Throughout his 14-year NBA career, Beverley has established himself as a tenacious defender, earning three NBA All-Defensive selections. He has also played for the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Chicago Bulls, demonstrating his versatility and enduring presence in the league.
