Excise Department Cracks Down on Liquor Sales on Scooter in Kottayam

Kottayam Excise Department made a breakthrough arrest on a man who was selling foreign liquor on his scooter. The accused, Juby Mon, 42, was apprehended with four liters of foreign liquor at Puthan Param in Manjatikari. The arrest comes after the Excise Department received a complaint about Mon’s illicit activities in the Kaipuzha Mutt areas.

The operation was carried out on Gandhi Jayanti, when the Excise Circle Office Preventive Officer, D. Anand Raja, along with his team, posed as customers and bought liquor from Mon. Subsequently, the excise jeep arrived at the scene and arrested the accused. With foreign liquor shops and bars closed for the past two days, Mon took advantage of the situation to sell liquor at inflated prices, leading to the excise operation.

In addition to the seizure of four liters of foreign liquor, the authorities also confiscated 1350 rupees from Mon, suspected to be the proceeds from the sale of illegal liquor. The team involved in the operation included Kottayam Excise Circle Office Preventive Officers B. Anand Raj, AP Balachandran, K. N. Ajithkumar, and Excise Driver Anas.

The arrest of Juby Mon showcases the Excise Department’s commitment to curbing illegal liquor trade and maintaining law and order in Kottayam. Selling liquor without proper licenses not only poses a threat to public safety but also deprives the government of revenue. Therefore, strict actions and operations such as these serve as a deterrent to those involved in such illegal activities.

The Excise Department urges the public to report any suspicious or illegal liquor sales to help in their ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and law-abiding society.
