Exemption for Nursing License in UAE; Two years work experience requirement waived

Dubai: The UAE has waived the requirement of at least two years of work experience to obtain a nursing license. Nursing graduates can take the licensure exam in all emirates of the country without any work experience. This exemption is also available for Lab Technicians.

The new decision is part of measures to unify the educational and professional qualifications of healthcare recruiters in the UAE. The new exemption will be applicable to all examinations by the Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Dubai Health Authority and Sharjah Health Authority that license medical staff. Registered nurses who have completed their nursing degree can take the exam without two years of work experience. Registered nurses in Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia who have completed a two-year nursing degree course can also apply for a license without work experience.

Assistant nurses who have completed an 18-month diploma course can also take the licensure exam without two years of experience. Degree and Diploma should be from recognized institutes and universities. Medical Lab Technicians are also exempted from the requirement of two years of work experience. Diploma or B.Sc degree in Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, Medical Lab Technology, Medical Laboratory Science with not less than two years clinical training from recognized institutions. The new decision is very comforting for nursing and lab technician candidates who want to work in Gulf.
