“Shades of the East” daughter and wife of the President of the Academy
In the Eastern Cultural Center on Rozhdestvenka, the Russian Academy of Arts opened an exhibition of works by Lika Tsereteli and Tatyana Kochemasova. The daughter and wife of the President of the Academy presented their vision of the East. And in shades. It is called “Shades of the East”, which talented artists expressed one in painting, the other in glass works.
On the opening day on Rozhdestvenka you will not be overcrowded: there are academicians, artists, connoisseurs, lovers and connoisseurs of the East. Zurab Tsereteli himself came to the opening not only as the president of the Academy, but also as Lika’s father and Tatyana’s husband. The official opening, congratulatory speeches, and the crowd disperses into small halls with vaulted ceilings and brick walls. There are paintings by Tatiana Kochemasova on the walls, vases of Lika Tsereteli proudly lined up in niches and on special structures. Her screens, in which painted glass replaces fabric, cover the space.

The East, as you know, is a delicate matter, and you are once again convinced of this by examining transparent colored glass covered with a bizarre and exquisite ornamental pattern. Lika is an absolute master in working with fragile material: in her vases and vases, color beats with light, which only adds play to the drawing itself. By the way, it is difficult to call it traditionally oriental – the motives, of course, are readable, but Lika Tsereteli complements them with modern images that are far from specific, recognizable, which is why they acquire a philosophical sound.
In contrast to these works, Tatyana Kochemasova’s paintings are landscapes, still lifes, and portraits. Made in rich colors, they charge the space with a purity of perception of the world, which only children have, and optimism. Giraffes with sad eyes close-up, birds of paradise among the apples of paradise, obviously in the Garden of Eden, cute monkeys playing like children. There is no place for conflicts and contradictions – only love, harmony and simplicity, in which all the wisdom of life.

Collective images of the artist are united by the graphics of the ornamental pattern, textures and color relationships. The ornament here acts as a kind of mobile interface, setting the pace, which brings to the fore primarily the emotional sphere of the authors, who are also known as serious researchers and organizers at the Russian Academy of Arts and the Museum of Modern Art.
