It was decided to form these two committees in a meeting held on Monday (September 30) in the conference room of the local government department at the Secretariat to take effective measures to prevent dengue and mosquito-borne diseases. Local Government Department Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman chaired the meeting as the chief guest was the advisor of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives AF Hasan Arif.
In the speech of the chief guest, AF Hasan Arif said that short and long-term plans should be adopted to deal with the dengue situation throughout the country. Expert opinion should be preferred in both plans. We are now in the super peak season of dengue conditions. I hope that the committee consisting of experts will play an effective role in the two Dhaka North and South City Corporations to deal with this situation.
In the meeting, it was informed that 2 lakh 17 thousand 648 places were visited by Dhaka North and South City Corporation from August to September of this year in order to protect the citizens from dengue infection in Dhaka, with the aim of eliminating mosquito breeding places, larvae and mosquito control activities. At this time larvae were found in 7 thousand 195 spots. Breeding sites have been destroyed and larvicide sprayed at 2 lakh 73 thousand 538 spots. 37 thousand 505 Novaluron tablets have been applied in mosquito control.
In the meeting, the experts said about the short and long-term plans to deal with dengue, instead of taking average activities, dengue control hotspots should be identified and mosquito control programs should be taken. Mosquito control activities should be carried out throughout the year, not just seasonally. In places where mosquito control activities have been carried out, whether mosquitoes and larvae have actually been destroyed or not, an entomologist should be assessed. Inter-ministerial coordination with the two city corporations is needed. Dengue patients should be consulted by a doctor or admitted to a hospital. Above all, public awareness should be increased.
The meeting was attended by administrators, chief executive officers of all city corporations, managing directors of Dhaka Wasa and experts and senior officials of local government departments.
