As a result of strikes on the Russian Savasleika airfield, between 25 and 50% of the enemy’s MiGs could be destroyed. The chief editor of Defense Express, Oleg Katkov, announced these figures on Radio NV.
He recalled that the head of the Central Intelligence Directorate was in an interview with an American publication Kirill Budanov It has already been officially announced that the MiG-31 aircraft would be destroyed during the August 16 attack on Savasleika.
“Regarding the number of damaged aircraft, Ukrainian publications, citing their own sources, stated very serious figures. Because, perhaps, we are talking about the fact that up to six MiG-31s were damaged. This is a very serious figure, because, according to optimistic estimates, there are about 24 MiG-31K in the Russian Federation. And if one is destroyed – that’s already great, and another 6 are damaged, then we’re talking about 25% of those vehicles. And considering, according to a more realistic estimate, there are 12 of them, that is, one squadron, then this is already 50%. And these are very serious losses,” said Oleg Katkov.
He noted that he paid attention to all the threat warnings issued by the Air Force recently, and from this it is clear that there is no take-off from Savasleika and the threat of the MiG-31K for a long time.
“That is, somewhere, perhaps, something at the same time. We hope the message is not that the planes have been hit and that they can be repaired in the short term. That is, the result is amazing, if we are really talking about a completely destroyed MiG-31K, about the possibility of destroying 6 more aircraft. Then this is an astronomical success,” said Katkov.
He noted that the MiG-31 is no longer produced by the Russian Federation, that is, any loss of this machine is irreversible.
The Russians are losing MiGs even in combat conditions
The expert explained that this is due to the technical aspects of the aircraft.
“The car is very specific, old. She has a specific fuel – just for her. A fairly common problem that has not been cured in the MiG-31 is their engines, which regularly burn out. Right in flight. And understand, practicing landing with one engine running and the other two is a standard exercise that pilots start learning as soon as they master this aircraft. About once a year, under current conditions, the Russian Federation loses MiG-31 – not 31K, but they have others – interceptors. And they lose one a year to engine fires. That is, the engine starts to burn and the car does not reach the airfield,” explained the expert.
Regarding the MiG-31K, he noted that this is a conversion specifically for the Kinzhal carrier and after proper adaptation of the Latak missiles they can no longer perform any other tasks.
“According to the available information, during work on the 31K, probably due to the carrying capacity issue of this vehicle, some of the radar equipment on board, including the radar station, and even the pylons and attachments are removed for them. in order to make the vehicle lighter so that it can lift and accelerate “Dagger”. The return trip after converting the MiG aircraft to 31K is almost impossible,” said Katkov.
