Explosion Rocks Wingårdsgatan; No Injuries Reported

Early Wednesday morning, at 00.48, the SOS Alarm received a report of an explosion on Wingårdsgatan. Emergency services, including the police and an ambulance, quickly responded to the scene.

Johan Ljung, the officer on duty at the police in the West region, stated at 01:30 that the explosion occurred at an entrance door to a staircase. “There has been a bang, but I don’t know what it is,” Ljung said. However, he confirmed that no one was physically injured in the incident.

Callers reported that a fire started in connection with the explosion. “That was the initial information we received, but a resident managed to put out the fire with his own fire extinguisher,” said Patrik Hedlund, an alarm and line operator at the greater Gothenburg rescue service.

While the emergency services are starting to wind down their efforts at the scene, they will remain to some extent to assist the police. The area has been cordoned off, and the National Bomb Squad, along with technicians, is currently on site. Johan Ljung confirmed that they are interviewing witnesses as part of their ongoing investigation.

A resident living on the same street described being woken up by the explosion. “I was sleeping when the whole building suddenly shook,” the witness informed GP.

The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into public dangerous devastation. At present, no arrests have been made related to the incident.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
