The Chhatra Dal has expressed its solidarity with the ongoing movement against apolitical politics in the campus while respecting the views of the general students of BUET.

Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam Rakib said this at a press conference on ‘BUET crisis: Demand for terror-free education and democratic student politics’ at Dhaka Reports Unity on Wednesday (April 3).

Rakib said in a written statement that the situation of the Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) is being closely monitored by the Chhatra Dal. The Nationalist Chhatra Dal thinks that the students of BUET have taken a stand against the politics of the Chhatra League in BUET to get relief from the lethal torture of the Chhatra League. After the premeditated murder of Shaheed Abrar Fahad, all but a handful of BUET students have taken a stand against the Chhatra League, despite banning student politics due to lack of security in the fascist state.

The Chhatra Dal thinks that the Chhatra League is solely responsible for the stand against the student politics in the apparent view of the students of BUET. Chhatra League has long been a sanctuary for murderers, rapists, women abusers, whistleblowers, drug dealers and tender hunters. They have crossed all limits of terrorist activities by killing the patriotic brilliant student Shaheed Abrar Fahad. At the same time tarnished the history of student politics in the country. No democratic student organization including Chhatra Dal will bear the responsibility of this misdeed of Chhatra League.

He said that the students of BUET got relief and security after banning Chhatra League politics in BUET. Because Chhatra League has set up torture cells in every educational institution across the country including BUET. After the murder of Abrar Fahad, the torture cells of BUET were closed, but the torture cells of Chhatra League continue in the halls of all public universities and government colleges, including Dhaka University.

Mentioning that hundreds of cases of students being beaten in guest rooms in Dhaka University have been published in national newspapers at different times, he said that no student supporting other opposition parties including Chhatra Dal can stay in any hall of Dhaka University. So far, more than five hundred students have been brutally tortured out of the halls of Dhaka University for supporting Chhatra Dal. Scores of seriously injured students were handed over to the police with the help of university teachers after being tortured with rods, stamps, hockey sticks.

Abu Bakar of F Rahman Hall was shot dead by BCL terrorists. Not only Abrar of BUET, but two innocent students have been killed because of Chhatra League in Dhaka University campus in the last fifteen years. Apart from this, Ehsan Rafiq, a student of SM Hall, lost his eye due to the blows of BCL cadres while asking for the return of the calculator he had lent. Chhatra League leaders raped wives in front of their husbands at Jahangirnagar University and Sylhet’s MC College. Chhatra League’s brutal torture cannot be dismissed.

Chhatra Dal president said, Dhaka University’s Madhur canteen was famous as a hotbed of student politics and a place of pilgrimage for practicing democracy. But the Chhatra League single-handedly occupied the Madhur canteen for the last fifteen years, putting the last nail in the coffin of the university’s practice of democracy. It is a travesty to establish brutal fascism in the honey canteen and establish democracy in Buet. There is no purpose of practicing politics behind it. Rather, out of frustration at not being able to extort money from BUET’s canteens, messes, shops and tenders from developmental activities, the central leaders of the BCL have conspired to resume looting and terrorist activities on the campus with the help of a small number of misguided BUET students who are BLA supporters.

He said that the move to start Chhatra League activities in BUET is a threat to the safety of the lives of ordinary students of BUET. BUET students are now apprehensive that if BCL activities resume, they will have to skip studies and class exams and attend BCL marches-meetings, guest rooms. If they do not participate in the program, they will be subjected to physical torture. BCL cadres may be expelled from the hall if they are disaffected. Every student of BUET is terrified because at any moment, tragic consequences like Shaheed Abrar’s torture by Chhatra League can happen in their lives. We consider the fear of loss of academic studies and insecurity of common students of BUET in the presence of Chhatra League very reasonable. We are concerned about this.

He also said that the talk of bringing back student politics in Buet by Chhatra League on the basis of constitutional rights is a cruel deception. In the name of student politics, they want to re-establish single occupation and torture cells in the campus. Chhatra League is doing ‘totalitarian violent activism’ on campuses. Campus violence and torture cannot be called student politics. To start student politics, it is necessary to ensure the coexistence of all political organizations. All political organizations should be allowed to conduct political activities freely on campus and in halls. All students should be given the opportunity to express themselves freely. But without doing any of these things, the director of the student welfare department of BUET joined the conspiracy to re-establish the occupation of the BCL by meeting with the central leaders including the BLA president in the dark of night. In the future, if any student of BUET is subjected to torture, his responsibility will be borne by the Chhatra League and the administration of BUET.

Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nashir Uddin Nashir said that the country is now in a deep crisis. On October 7, 2019, BUET student Abrar Fahad was brutally killed by BLA terrorists. Chhatra League once again doing student politics with the court’s verdict, the mischievous attempt by the Chhatra League through the court is a scandalous chapter for student politics. We respect the judgment of the court. But the court did not clarify anything about the sentiments of the BUET administration and students.

Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nashir Uddin Nashir moderated the press conference and Chhatra Dal Senior Vice President Abu Afsan Mohammad Yahya, Senior Joint General Secretary Shyamal Malum, Organizing Secretary Amanullah Aman, Office Secretary Jahangir Pradhan, Publicity Secretary Sharif Pradhan Shubo, Dhaka University Chhatra Dal President Ganesh were also present at the press conference. Chandra Roy Sahas, General Secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon etc.
