Extension of ban on demolition of occupied buildings in Delhi: Supreme Court order

by time news

The Supreme Court has extended the ban on demolition of occupied buildings in Delhi and Jahangirpuri by two weeks.

Hindus marched on the Jahangirpuri area of the capital Delhi last Saturday in honor of the Hindu god Hanuman Jayanti. Hindus rallied in the Muslim-majority area of Jahangirpuri C-Block even though the police did not allow it. At that time, some people attacked the rally by throwing stones. This was followed by a confrontation between the two sides.

Police who tried to prevent the clash were also attacked. Shooting incidents also took place during the clash. Several people, including police, were seriously injured in the clash. Following this, the police were concentrated in the area. Twenty-four people were arrested in connection with the violence.

Meanwhile, the North Delhi Corporation announced that the occupied buildings in the Jahangirpuri area where the violence took place would be demolished. This was followed by bulldozing of occupied buildings in the Jahangirpuri area. A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of Jamiat Ulema I Hind seeking an injunction against the demolition of occupied buildings in the Jahangirpuri area.

The apex court, which heard the petition yesterday, issued an order to immediately stop the demolition of the occupied buildings in Jahangirpuri. It also adjourned the case, saying it would reconsider the matter tomorrow (yesterday).

Under the circumstances, the case came up for hearing again in the Supreme Court yesterday. At that time, the Supreme Court ordered that the ban on demolition of occupied buildings in Jahangirpuri be extended for another 2 weeks. Were the buildings demolished even after an order was issued yesterday to stop the removal of occupants? The Supreme Court has said that will be examined.
