Tom Ellison, Facebook director and vice president at Meta, published a post on the company’s blog on the occasion of the milestone of 2 billion active users on the platform each day. Ellison referred to the areas in which Facebook will focus in the coming year, including artificial intelligence, monetization tools for content creators and messages.

In the last two years, there has been a change on Facebook: more and more people are coming to the platform to discover new content, entertain themselves, and share it with other people – and not just with the goal of keeping up to date with what’s new with their friends, family and communities.

The company’s investments in artificial intelligence will allow people to receive more recommendations on content – which will continue to be refined in response to direct feedback from people, alongside safety tools aimed at making sure that the recommendations are not harmful or violate the platform’s community rules.

Meta’s artificial intelligence teams will advance with the generative AI developments they are working on – and the company will work to expose billions around the world to this breakthrough technology, thus enabling them to create and consume content in new ways.

Reels videos continue to grow rapidly: Facebook and Instagram report more than 140 billion Reels views on both platforms, each day.

In recent years, the company has built a monetization system that allows content creators to earn money on the platforms. This year, Facebook plans to focus on short-form video monetization tools — and will expand the Reels video ad experiment to allow content creators to record more revenue.

Also, the company plans to expand the virtual gifts that can be offered to creators on Facebook and expand the possibility to buy and send Stars within the Reels videos.

This year the company will focus on private messages and will test access to the inbox through the Facebook application. Today, more than 140 billion private messages are sent on Meta platforms every day. On Instagram, people share Reels videos nearly a billion times a day via direct messages (DMs), and Facebook has also seen a consistent increase in shares of these videos.

Facebook wants to make it easier for people to share in personal messages the content they have discovered – without the need to switch from one platform to another. Therefore, the company is currently testing the ability of people to access the inbox of their messenger, through the Facebook application. The company will continue and expand the experiment soon.

Private messages are also one of the most significant ways to build communities today. The company began testing the tool of community chats last year – and the early results of the experiment are promising: last December there was a 50% increase in the number of people who tried this tool on Facebook and Messenger.
