Faced with the inflationary shock, France fared better than its neighbors in the euro zone

The inflationary surge is, it seems, coming to an end in the euro zone. And this episode leaves a different mark depending on the country. From the general picture, it appears that France has done well compared to its neighbors.

In April 2024, prices there increased by 2.4% over one year, in the average of euro zone countries and like Germany, according to the Eurostat index. In four countries – including Italy – inflation was below 2%. On the other hand, it reached 4.9% in Belgium and 4.7% in Croatia and stood at 3% or more in six countries including Spain.
