Fairphone has released its second-generation wireless earbuds, featuring seven modular repairable parts, Sony LDAC support, and a redesigned smaller frame. Available now in Europe and the UK from £99 or €119, the Fairbuds 2 will launch in the United States on November 2 for $119.
Modular personal audio is getting a second look as Fairphone expands beyond smartphones with the launch of its latest hardware. The Fairbuds 2 arrive following an official teaser on the social media platform X and a scheduled reveal targeting the European market. Built to combat disposable electronics, the new model keeps the core repairable philosophy of its predecessor while shifting to a stemmed design available in black or green.
Seven User-Replaceable Parts Make Hardware Serviceable
While most wireless earbuds are discarded once their internal components degrade, Fairphone continues to buck industry trends by making its audio gear serviceable. The hardware relies on a total of seven user-replaceable parts, allowing owners to swap out individual items rather than buying an entirely new set when a component fails.

The repair process requires minimal effort and standard tools. The battery in each earbud can be removed in less than a minute without any tools at all, while a single Torx T5 screw secures the cell inside the charging case. Alongside the internal batteries, the replaceable lineup includes eartips and outer sleeves. The entire assembly avoids the use of glue entirely. Spare parts will be sold on the company website, and the earbuds hold an IP54 rating to guarantee protection against rain and sweat.

Audio Upgrades and Battery Performance Improvements
Beyond repairability, the updated hardware delivers substantial improvements to audio fidelity and stamina. The revised construction includes 11mm bio-cellulose dynamic drivers crafted from light organic fibers
instead of standard plastics or metals. This acoustic foundation pairs with Sony’s LDAC Bluetooth codec for high-resolution streaming, a feature absent in the first-generation model which relied solely on SBC and AAC codecs. The driver is designed to offer brighter and crisper treble, alongside a refined tuning that provides deeper bass, warmer mids, and clearer highs. Additional features include multipoint connectivity for two devices simultaneously, a five-band EQ inside the companion app, and hybrid active noise cancellation designed to cancel 45dB of noise.

Physical dimensions have also shrunk significantly. The new charging case is 37 percent smaller and 32 percent lighter than the original version. Despite the reduced footprint, battery life nearly doubles. The earbuds deliver up to 40 hours of total playtime without active noise cancellation, providing eight hours on a single charge with ANC off, or six hours with hybrid ANC engaged. Charging is completed over USB-C and takes a couple of hours for a full top-up.
Fair and Recycled Materials Ensure Sustainable Production
The company maintains a strong focus on transparency regarding its production processes and material sourcing. Forty-nine percent of the materials used in the construction of the Fairbuds 2 are fair and recycled, incorporating recycled plastics, rare earth minerals, and cobalt, gold, and silver acquired using fair mining credits. The plastics and silicone used are entirely free from PFAS chemicals. Production of the earbuds takes place under fair working conditions.

Earbuds Launch in Europe and the US
European consumers can purchase the new audio gear directly from the company’s online shop. The regional pricing stands at £99 in the United Kingdom and €119 across Europe, marking a more accessible entry point compared to the debut price of the original model.
The hardware is scheduled to cross the Atlantic next month. A US launch at $119 will follow on November 2, bringing the sustainable audio option to North American buyers in green and black colorways.
