Farmer allowed until May | Tamil Murasu

by time news

Plant nurseries and farm tenants operating on Pa Soon Ba Road in Ison were required to vacate by December 31 last year. But the deadline has been extended to May 31.

The Singapore Land Commission and the National Parks Authority said in a joint statement on Friday that they had been given time to identify the new site and move to the site.

The tenants demanded that arrangements be made to relocate to a new location and that both Legal and Home Affairs Minister Ka Shanmugam and National Development Minister Desmond Lee extend their leases as a result.

Commenting on this, Minister Mr. Shanmugam said that the Land Commission and the Park Corporation had met the victims and informed them about the extension of the lease period by five months.

The government had told the farmers in July 2017 that the land should be returned to the government at the end of the lease period.

They have already been granted an extension of the lease for up to three years. Both organizations pointed out that the place where they operate is urgently needed to build houses for the Housing Development Corporation.

The organizations said extending the lease beyond next May would delay the construction of homes for about 2,000 people. They told the tenants about this too.
