A new prepaid plan from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is rapidly gaining traction, offering commuters a more convenient and cost-effective way to navigate the nation’s highways. Launched on August 15th, the FASTag Annual Pass has already exceeded 2.5 million users and facilitated over 5.67 crore transactions in just two months.
Addressing Commuter Needs with a Seamless Solution
The FASTag Annual Pass is designed to simplify highway travel and reduce toll-related delays. According to a ministry release, the initiative underscores NHAI’s commitment to enhancing the “Ease of Commuting” for frequent highway users. The pass is currently valid at approximately 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and national expressways across India.
How the FASTag Annual Pass Works
For a one-time payment of ₹3,000, non-commercial vehicle owners can secure a pass valid for one year or up to 200 toll crossings – whichever comes first. The pass is linked to an existing FASTag account and is activated within two hours of payment through the RajmargYatra App or the NHAI website. It’s important to note that the pass is non-transferable and applicable only to national highways and national expressways.
Users continuing to travel on state highways or expressways managed by state governments or local bodies will still utilize their FASTag wallet balance for tolls and parking fees.
Overwhelming Response Signals Positive Adoption
“The FASTag Annual Pass has received an overwhelming response from national highway users,” a senior official stated. The rapid adoption, with 2.5 million users and 5.67 crore transactions in the last two months, demonstrates a clear demand for streamlined toll payment solutions. NHAI emphasized that this positive response reflects their dedication to providing a safe, smooth, and hassle-free travel experience on India’s expanding network of National Highways.
