Father’s Legal Warning Overshadows Vicky Leandros’ Final Concert in Athens

by time news
Vicky Leandros chose Athens to give the final concert of her career, but a legal notice from her father, Leo Leandros, has overshadowed the preparations at the Herodion.

In a public statement, the singer’s father mentions that he has sent a legal notice prohibiting his daughter from singing the songs that he created and co-created, as he expresses his extreme dissatisfaction with the fact that his songs were presented as hers, omitting his name.

Leo Leandros’ announcement

I was blessed that the original musical compositions I created or co-created in collaboration with friends and great colleagues, such as Klaus Munro, Ralf Arnie, and Michael Kunze, among others, were interpreted for the first time by my daughter Vicky Leandros and brought to prominence as her greatest hits, with which she became internationally known: “Ich liebe das Leben,” “Dann kamst du/Après toi” (with which Ms. Leandros was crowned the winner of the 17th Eurovision Contest), “Wo Du Bist (Da Bin Auch Ich),” “Die Bouzouki Klang Durch Die Sommernacht,” “Drehorgelmann,” “Ich Bin,” “Karussel d’ Amour,” to mention just a few songs that I sign as creator and producer (Leo Leandros, Mario Panas).

With a legal notice that I have already sent, I prohibit the public performance of the songs that I have created or co-created at Vicky Leandros’ concert at the Herodion on September 6, 2024. The way this concert has been initially described and promoted as Vicky’s “greatest hits,” combined with the so “loud” omission of my name, undermines and diminishes both me as a composer and creator, as well as my works, thus insulting my rights and personality. The late communication attempts to reference me and my name that I learn intervened after the delivery of the legal notice, do nothing but confirm this insult.

I regret experiencing such an insult again. This time, however, I have been forced to invoke the provisions of the law for the protection of my personality and my work because I owe it to my journey, my career, and to myself, more than a hundred years old.

I wish good luck to the organization of the concert and to my daughter Vicky, hoping for the display of the necessary respect for my statements.
