On November 17, Emine O., 16, and Sadegül O.,29,arrived in Istanbul from the Netherlands for a holiday and checked into a hotel in the Fatih district. Shortly after settling in,both siblings began to experience symptoms consistent with food poisoning,including nausea,vomiting,and diarrhea. The sisters had been exploring the fatih area and sampling local cuisine prior to becoming ill. The rapid onset of symptoms suggests a relatively recent exposure to a contaminant.
Hospitalization and Treatment
Due to the severity of their symptoms, the two were transported to a local hospital for medical attention. According to hospital statements,the siblings reported consuming food from various establishments while exploring the Fatih area.
