The leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) said that they will work more vigorously with the government to ensure fire safety in the country’s commercial buildings.

Md. Amin Helali also said that everyone who caused this accident due to negligence should be brought under punishment. Appropriate punishment should be ensured to those whose negligence led to the loss of so many lives. Whether those involved in this accident are businessmen or government institutions concerned with building compliance assurance and supervision; He commented that those who actually caused this accident due to their negligence and indifference should be brought under strict punishment.

Besides, the FBCCI Senior Vice-President urged those concerned with the supervision of building compliance issues to be more responsible.

He urged everyone concerned to be alert from now on so that tragic accidents do not occur due to man-made crises in the future.

Responding to a question from reporters that some people are blaming businessmen for one fire after another, the senior vice-president of FBCCI said that before the fire at Bailey Road, the building was declared dangerous, but no monitoring was done afterwards. Before the accident there was an opportunity to take legal action. If a businessman is found guilty in real sense, then disciplinary action must be taken against him.

He called upon the concerned institutions to analyze and test the buildings well before issuing compliance certificates to commercial buildings and issue certificates. The FBCCI senior vice-president called upon all concerned to identify the areas where there is weakness and take necessary measures to ensure that similar incidents do not recur in the future.
