Speculation and rumors have been raging for days, and now Ralf Rangnick has spoken out himself. And the Austrian national coach gave a small foretaste of what it could be like for him as coach of FC Bayern Munich.

“There was contact,” Rangnick told the “90minuten.at” portal, but his focus is currently entirely on the Austrian national team and the upcoming European Championships. At the moment there is no reason to deal “intensively and specifically” with FC Bayern’s interest.

The 65-year-old also answered the question as to when he would think intensively about Munich’s offer: “The moment Bayern would say: We want you. And then I have to ask myself: Do I even want that?”

These statements leave room for further speculation. The negotiations between those responsible at FC Bayern and the “football professor” may not have gone optimally. Or that Munich’s interest isn’t as hot as expected.

But according to information from ran and numerous other media outlets, Rangnick is the top candidate to succeed Thomas Tuchel, one can assume that the ÖFB coach is already staking out his territory in Munich.

Rangnick wants extensive competencies

Rangnick doesn’t just want to be a coach, he wants to have a say in transfers, have the football he prefers played and generally be involved in the direction of the entire club. Financial matters don’t play a role, said Rangnick: “For me it’s about other things: Can I make a difference? Can I make a difference? Is there a chance of developing a team and being successful? That’s what drives me.”

In Munich, however, these competencies are distributed among several powerful people. Rangnick would meet sports director Max Eberl, sports director Christoph Freund, and the two club legends Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who still have great influence.

In such a situation with a sentence like “Do I even want that?” Responding to an offer from FC Bayern should signal strength. Rangnick makes it clear that he doesn’t want to come to join in, but rather to take on the role of boss.

Rangnick holds all the trump cards

The Munich team’s search for a trainer has been difficult so far; in general, the market for top trainers is currently competitive. Jürgen Klopp and Xabi Alonso, who the Munich team would have loved to sign, are not available for at least another year. Julian Nagelsmann preferred to stay with the DFB team rather than return to FC Bayern.

The current ÖFB coach will be fully aware of all this, he holds all the trump cards, which is why he has already formulated his demands to Bayern.

Those responsible at FC Bayern must now decide whether they want to fulfill this or not.
