Robert Habeck did not repeat his predecessor’s mistake. The word medium-sized businesses appears 29 times in the industrial strategy presented on Tuesday. While the former CDU Economics Minister Peter Altmaier primarily wanted to create more “national champions” of the size of a Deutsche Bank or a Siemens group with his industrial strategy, the Green Economics Minister extensively praises the many “hidden champions” from medium-sized businesses.
The 60-page concept paper is likely to be hotly debated, both in politics and in business. At the halfway point of the legislative period, Habeck sketches a picture of an economy that requires detailed steering by politicians.
