Feed the knowledge, curated by the Salus Pueri Foundation and the Women’s and Child Health Department of the University of Padua (with the support of Pam Panorama), aims to raise the awareness of teachers and families on the issue of childhood obesity. An important topic, given that in Italy 22% of overweight and 10% obese children. But many parents do not realize it: 40% of overweight children perceived by the mother as normal-underweight.

Physical activity and nutrition

The goal of Nutri il Sapere is to inform about the dangers of unhealthy habits, including excessive sedentary. Children will be involved in fun and educational activities they show the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and will be guided to share with their family. In fact, according to a study by the University of Padua, the concept of imprinting precocious, or the education of children to a correct lifestyle at an age in which the plasticity of the brain is maximum. Imprinting affects the spheres of sport and physical activity, to be implemented already in elementary school (75% of males and 85% of females do not follow the indications of the World Health Organization for at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day), and that of nutrition, in favor of the Mediterranean diet – he says Eugenio Baraldi, scientific director of the Lifestyles project at the University of Padua -. Another problem that needs early intervention is it screen time: 40% of young people spend more than 3 hours a day in front of the TV or electronic devices. A phenomenon that implies sedentary (with an accentuation of the obesity problem), sleep deprivation and isolation from the real world.


Games and experiments

Nourish knowledge involving over 100,000 students from 500 schools in 38 provinces, who will receive a kit consisting of didactic, educational and informative materials on two macro-themes: The world of food and its secrets, with insights into the origin, cultivation / production methods, composition and anatomy of products and nutritional characteristics; The good rules for growing big, on proper nutrition, the importance and role of physical movement, the risks associated with screen time and cigarette smoke. Each macro-theme was treated through a subsidiary with games and experiments, cards, in-depth videos, posters and teacher guides. Furthermore, a dedicated section will be created for the school on the pampanorama.it site with access to content divided into chapters, which can be downloaded and projected on IWB.

Up for grabs prizes for schools

Food, culture and school, today more than ever, has updated and expanded its tools and initiatives for health education. Families, schools and local education agents can create that synergy in the message of food education and healthy habits that can thus be internalized by children, such as what should be a “normal” lifestyle explains Alda Baldan, primary school referent Daniele Manin of Padua, the first to have joined the project.
