Initiated by the Regional Human Rights Commission of Fez-Meknes and the regional youth directorate, this workshop brought together representatives of associations involved in the field of summer camps and the promotion of childhood.

The objective of this workshop was to examine the human rights dimension in summer camp programs and to assess the effectiveness of the protection of children’s rights within these organizations in Morocco.

The participants, mainly associations active in the region, closely examined the effectiveness of children’s rights during the summer camps. They also addressed the more general issue of respect for children’s rights in the context of the annual public educational activities of these associations, whether youth centers, children’s clubs, or summer camps. .

According to Abdelali Bakkali, responsible for children at the Regional Directorate of the youth sector of the Fez-Meknes region, this workshop is part of a partnership agreement signed in December 2022 between the Regional Commission for Human Rights. Man and the Regional Youth Delegation. The objective of this agreement is to develop welcoming spaces for children and young people, integrating human rights approaches.

In a statement to MAP, the university professor and member of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Fez-Meknes, Abderrahmane Haddad, underlined the importance of this meeting as an essential step to assess the reality of respect for human rights. the child in summer camps.

He expressed the intention of forming a working committee aimed at developing an action program with a view to promoting the rights of children in summer camps and in the field of educational action in the region in general.

Concerning summer camps, he stressed the need to develop a general state policy on children’s rights and summer camps, highlighting a long-term strategy and a global vision.

Mr. Haddad also noted a significant increase in the number of child beneficiaries and supervisors, as well as an increase in scholarships allocated to children, marking a quantitative turning point in the field of summer camps.
