figure Technology Files Second IPO,aims to Tokenize Equity on Solana Blockchain
A groundbreaking move could redefine equity trading as Figure Technology Solutions,a leading fintech firm specializing in tokenized asset markets and on-chain lending infrastructure, has submitted a second Initial Public Offering (IPO) request to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This latest filing seeks permission to offer the company’s equity directly on a public blockchain, marking a significant step toward decentralized finance adoption.
The application follows closely on the heels of Figure technology’s recent listing on Nasdaq, signaling an aggressive strategy to expand the reach of decentralized finance (defi), especially within the Solana blockchain ecosystem.
During the Solana Breakpoint conference, Mike Cagney, co-founder and CEO of Figure Technology Solutions, announced the decision to file the IPO wiht the SEC. According to Cagney, the public offering is designed to create “a new version of Figure equity on a public blockchain,” with a primary focus on Solana.
This blockchain-based equity will not be listed on traditional exchanges like the Nasdaq or New York Stock exchange, nor will it rely on conventional brokerage services such as Robinhood or Goldman Sachs. Rather, Cagney envisions a system where equity is issued and traded directly on the blockchain through Figure’s alternative trading system, which he described as “essentially a decentralized exchange.”
“Investors will be able to utilize the tokenized security within DeFi protocols, which will enable them to borrow against it or lend it out,” Cagney explained, highlighting the potential for increased liquidity and accessibility following the introduction of equity directly on Solana.
The firm’s ambitions extend beyond simply tokenizing its own shares. Sources indicate that Figure intends to assist other companies in offering equity directly within the Solana ecosystem. “One of our main goals is not only to bring equity into the Solana ecosystem but also to allow for native Solana equity issuance,” Cagney stated.
Solana’s Growing Prominence in Tokenized Assets
Analysts recognize Solana as one of the most active public blockchains currently available. This activity is driving its increasing importance in the tokenized assets market, with a notable surge in its holdings of real-world assets (RWA) over the past year.
Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Bitwise Asset Management, believes Solana is poised to become the preferred network for stablecoins and tokenized assets within the financial industry, despite Ethereum’s current leadership in tokenization.
According to analysts, blockchains offering accelerated transaction speeds and high capacity will be particularly attractive to investors in the financial sector, as Wall Street increasingly evaluates the viability of tokenized assets. Hougan asserts that Solana possesses a competitive advantage in this space, supported by research from RedStone, which identifies Solana as a “high-performance challenger” in the RWA field, specifically in tokenized US Treasury markets.
