Former child star Macaulay Culkin honored with Hollywood star

The family comedy “Home Alone” is one of Hollywood’s most successful films – and made Macaulay Culkin a child star over 30 years ago. Now Hollywood is honoring him with a star.

The former child star Macaulay Culkin (43, “Home Alone”) was honored with a star plaque in Hollywood. The actor unveiled the 2,765th star on the famous “Walk of Fame” on Friday.

Culkin posed for photographers and spectators at the ceremony with his partner, actress Brenda Song (35, “The Social Network”), and their young sons Dakota and Carson. Paris Jackson (25), the daughter of pop star Michael Jackson (1958-2009), was also there. Culkin is her godfather.

In an emotional acceptance speech, Culkin addressed Song. “I love you so much,” the actor said. She and the two children would mean everything to him.

Sudden fame

Catherine O’Hara (69, “Schitt’s Creek”) and Natasha Lyonne (44, “Irresistible”) were invited as guest speakers. In the comedy hit Home Alone, O’Hara played the film mother of the little title character Kevin, who is accidentally forgotten at home by his parents during a Christmas trip.

Culkin played little Kevin perfectly, said O’Hara. At the time he was celebrated as a “superstar” and “the hottest young man in Hollywood”. He coped with this sudden fame with humor and intelligence, said O’Hara.

The film, in which Kevin creatively thwarts two burglars, was a huge success in 1990 and made Culkin a child star. Chris Columbus directed from the screenplay by John Hughes. The director was also on board again for the sequel “Kevin – Alone in New York” (1992).

Child star with family problems

Culkin was also early in business in Hollywood with films like “My Girl” (1991) and “Richie Rich” (1994). He later starred primarily in television productions, including the successful horror series “American Horror Story” in 2021.

After his early success, the child star struggled with family problems. The parents had a bitter custody battle, and Culkin later denied them access to his money. At 17, he married actress Rachel Miner, but the marriage broke up two years later.
