The Fund for the Financing of the Agricultural Sector, Finagro allocated more than 226,426 loans for farmers and producers worth $2.66 billion, between August 2022 and September 2023.
According to the entity, of the total amount disbursed between that period, More than $784,826 million were granted to women in rural municipalities and $659,119 million for women in dispersed rural municipalities.
Of the total credits disbursed, 57% were for working capital, while 34.8% for making new investments that support the transformation of agri-food systems and promote family farming as an axis to promote food security.
“In the Government, rural and peasant women are the protagonists. We celebrate that Their work is essential for the productive development of the fieldfor the decarbonization of agriculture and for Colombia to become a world power for life,” highlighted Ángela Penagos, president of Finagro.
As part of the initiative to empower rural women, Finagro, through the Special Lines of Credit, LEC, placed 38,778 loans to women for a total of $575,913 million. In addition, through the Agricultural Guarantee Fund, FAG, it issued 145,004 guarantees to support the loans, for a value of $1.47 billion.
“Rural women have accessed the benefits provided by the Agricultural Insurance Incentive, ISA, a mechanism through which the purchase of an insurance policy is facilitated to protect themselves from climate risks such as the El Niño phenomenon,” the entity stated. “Between August 2022 and September 2023, 11,833 policies were delivered to women for an insured value of $198,648 million”.
