Operational for a year and a half, the James Webb space telescope has already made it possible to admire splendid images of the universe and to collect in particular valuable data on extrasolar planets, those which revolve around stars other than the Sun. Among its favorite targets, the Trappist-1 system, seven rocky planets which evolve around a red dwarf… and which turn the heads of astrophysicists! At least three of them orbit at a distance from the star that could allow them to harbor liquid water. And, who knows, about life?

The chances of answering this question anytime soon are slim. Firstly because James Webb’s mission is planned to last ten years (more if its fuel permits), and this space observatory, which is being “contested” by researchers from all over the world, does not know where to turn. Then because, in the opinion of some, James Webb would not be powerful enough to find life outside the Solar System.
