The issue of poster pollution and vandalism of public buildings is called upon to be addressed by the city of Ioannina, on the occasion of the pre-election period ahead of the European elections in June.

The concern that exists, as despite the regulations, the situation sometimes tends to become uncontrollable, was expressed at the special meeting of the municipal council initially by the head of the faction “Yannena Nea Epochi” Dimitris Papageorgiou, with whom the mayor Thomas Begas also agreed. speaking of “aesthetics of ugliness” that small minorities want to impose.

The debate took place on the occasion of the ratification of the protocol for determining the manner of use of the spaces granted by the municipal council to political parties, coalitions of political parties and combinations of candidates for pre-election promotion.

“Despite the efforts of the Municipality and the understanding of the municipal authorities and services, what is agreed with some political parties, not with all, and are not followed. The city is always a hotbed of all kinds of arbitrariness during the pre-election periods and between them, and we should seriously think about permanent solutions that prevent those who violate the law and not stay in wishful thinking,” noted Mr. Papageorgiou.

“We will not disagree at all,” noted Mr. Begas, stressing that the issue does not only concern posters, flyers, but also slogans on buildings. “I have characterized the totality of these actions as the aesthetics of ugliness. The issue is not only faced by Ioannina, but also by other cities. It is difficult to deal with through the actions of the municipal authorities, it needs the cooperation of other agencies as well”, he noted and added that it is an issue that can be discussed at the level of the leaders of factions in order to submit ideas and proposals.

An “answer” on behalf of the KKE was given by the head of the “People’s Rally” Oli Tsoumanis, noting that overall in the country the pre-election publicity is not proportional, while she noted that the KKE completely respects the buildings and does not cause damage.
