A tragedy, north of Tehran. At least 32 people died Friday in a major fire that broke out at a drug treatment center in Langarud, Gilan province. “Sixteen people were injured,” including “four are in critical condition,” said Mohammed Jalai, the vice-president of Gilan province.

The Isna agency published images of the fire lighting up the sky overnight and releasing thick clouds of smoke. Other images showed firefighters and first aid services working in front of a blackened and seriously damaged building.

Investigation underway to determine the causes of the fire

An initial report, communicated by the head of provincial justice, Esmail Sadeghi, to the press organ of the judiciary Mizan Online, reported 27 dead and 12 injured transported to hospital. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of this fire, said Esmail Sadeghi, quoted by Mizan. He specified that the center could accommodate up to forty people.

In August, a fire in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar damaged numerous shops without causing any casualties. In July 2017, a fire in Tehran’s Plasco shopping center, which has 15 floors, killed 22 people, including 16 firefighters.
