Fire at the UACM causes evacuation of students

On the afternoon of this Tuesday, May 7, a strong fire at the San Lorenzo Tezonco campus of the Autonomous University of Mexico City (UACM)located in the Iztapalapa mayor’s office.

According to the first reports, it was reported that the fire started in the rear of the facilitywhere some grasslands are located, which was immediately attended to by emergency services.

Despite the prompt action, the educational authorities proceeded to evict the university students in the area: “At this time the eviction of the community from the campus is taking place,” they wrote on their social networks.

For its part, the Heroico Fire Department of Mexico City reported that its personnel were attending to a fire burning dry grass and leaf litter in the San Lorenzo Tezonco neighborhood. Although the affected area covered approximately 150 square meters, it was not specified whether the fire was inside the educational institution.

The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) also issued a statement through social networks, ensuring that the fire did not pose a risk to the population and that work was being done to put out the flames.
