Women’s T20 Challenge matches are usually held during the IPL. However, like other countries, there have been demands to hold a women’s T20 league in India.
It would be perfect to start the Women’s IPL next year. BCCI president Ganguly said last February that it will definitely be a big success like the IPL. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah recently said that the women’s IPL will start soon and its value will be astounding. The Indian women’s team advanced to the finals of the recently held Commonwealth Games and won a silver medal. This has increased the interest in women’s cricket among Indian fans. Recently retired veteran Mithali Raj has expressed her desire to play in the Women’s IPL.
In this case, new information about the women’s IPL, which will start next year, has been released. BCCI has sent an email to state cricket associations about the Women’s IPL plans. Key features mentioned in it are:
* The Women’s T20 World Cup concludes in South Africa on February 26. The Women’s IPL will be launched next.
* 5 teams, total 22 games, 18 players in each team. Six foreign players allowed. Out of the 11 players in the match, 5 foreign players will be allowed. Out of those 5 players, one player should be from an associate country.
* 20 matches in league round. Each team will play the other teams in the tournament twice. The top team in the league round will qualify for the finals. The 2nd and 3rd place teams will meet again. Whichever team wins it will qualify for the finals.
* Table is not ready yet. However, before the start of the men’s IPL, the women’s IPL will be over. Men’s IPL 2023 will begin at the end of March.
* Women’s IPL cannot be held as every team plays in a local away venue. If you do that, you can’t play every day with a small number of teams. So the first 10 games can be played at one venue and the next 10 at another venue.
* Teams may be divided by presenting cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Bangalore. Or it can also be segmented by region.
