Multan: Floodlights caught fire before the opening match in the Pakistan Super League, leaving fans in a panic. The floodlights caught fire just before the opening match between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The flood light caught fire due to sparks during the fireworks display in conjunction with the PSL opening ceremony.

This was only half an hour before the start of the match. The fire engine arrived and extinguished the fire by sprinkling water. Seeing the fire in the floodlights, the fans panicked and tried to run out of the stadium en masse, but the police intervened and controlled the stampede. The match was tossed after the fire force arrived and extinguished the fire.

Multan Sultans captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and sent Lahore Qlanders into bat. With Fakhar Zaman’s (66 off 42 balls) brilliant batting, Lahore scored 175 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Multan Sultans lost by one run despite Rizwan and Shan Masood getting off to a good start with a century partnership on the opening wicket.

David Miller (25 off 20 balls) and Kieron Pollard (20 off 12 balls) battled after Rizwan’s 75 off 50 balls and Masood’s 35 off 31 were dismissed but they could not get the 15 runs they needed to win in the last over. Zaman Khan dismissed Pollard in the second ball of the last over and Usman Khan was also dismissed in the next ball. Usama Mir was run out in the fourth ball. Boundaries were scored in the next two balls but Multan Sultans lost by one run.
