jpnn.com – The Jember Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) noted that hundreds of houses were flooded in two sub-districts due to heavy rain that fell on the local area, Friday (8/3) afternoon until evening, with one person injured as a result of the disaster.

“The flood overflowed into residential areas and national roads with a water level of 60-100 cm and entered residents’ homes with a water level of 20-50 cm,” said Jember BPBD Head Widodo Julianto when confirmed, Saturday (9/3).

He explained that heavy rain for an hour in the area caused the Banjarsari River to overflow in Paguan Hamlet, Petung Village, Bangsalsari District, thereby submerging residential areas.

“The flooding was also caused by overflowing rice fields and residential areas and drainage which was unable to accommodate rainwater discharge,” he said.

He explained that the flood submerged several villages in Bangsalsari District, namely Petung, Tisnogambar, Sukorejo and Langkap Villages with a total of 392 families (KK) affected.

In Balung District, floods hit several hamlets in Curahlele Village with a total of 282 families affected.

The total number of those affected by the flood reached 674 families with one person suffering injuries in the name of Hadi Wicaksono (45) because he was hit by a house wall that collapsed as a result of the disaster.

Joint officers also evacuated children and the elderly whose houses were flooded quite heavily because the river water discharge in the local area was quite heavy so there were fears that the flood would be even higher.

Floods that occurred in Jember, East Java have submerged hundreds of houses and one person was injured.
