Florida drivers who meet certain requirements will be eligible for a discount of half (50%) off the cost of tolls (toll) in the SunPass system, thanks to the Moving Florida Forward program, implemented by the state’s governor, Ron DeSantis.

Starting last Monday, April 1, toll road users who exceed 35 monthly uses will begin to enjoy a 50% discount, which will be reflected in their SunPass digital account. The benefit in the form of credits will arrive starting in May, when the first month of the program has been completed.

Requirements to be beneficiaries of the 50% discount program on Florida tolls

  • SunPass account or Florida interoperable account in good standing.
  • Only customers with two-axle vehicles.
  • A transponder with 35 or more paid transactions that occurred within a calendar month.
  • SunPass or Florida interoperable customers traveling at toll facilities in Florida that accept electronic toll payment.

Highways and roads where the toll discount applies in Florida

The assistance program extends to a broad network of toll roads throughout the state and covers routes managed by the Florida Department of Transportation, including the Florida Turnpike, as well as highway authorities in key areas such as Greater Miami, Florida Central, Leeway, and Tampa Hillsborough region.

With a budget of $450 million allocated to this program, which will last until March 2025, DeSantis assures that it is a measure to recognize and reward frequent toll drivers in Florida.

This effort adds to almost a billion dollars dedicated in two years to support the state’s travelers, setting a precedent in transportation and mobility policy.

“I am proud to announce another year of toll savings for Floridians. With this additional $450 million, we have secured nearly $1 billion over a two-year period to reimburse Florida travelers,” DeSantis said on X.
