A single mother in Florida was left baffled after her concrete driveway was stolen right out of the ground as she tried to sell her home.
Amanda Brochu, of Orange County, was left scratching her head after someone ripped up the concrete driveway of her home, leaving a muddy dirt patch in its place. The bizarre theft occurred soon after Brochu listed her home for sale, with strange contractors showing up to measure the driveway. Brochu’s son counted a total of five workers who claimed they were hired by a man named “Andre” from the Tampa area to price a replacement driveway.
Despite providing text messages from Andre requesting the estimate and providing Brochu’s address, the workers became suspicious when the client was out of town and cut off communication when asked for proof of ownership. A week later, Brochu’s doorbell camera captured a bulldozer ripping up the concrete driveway and hauling it away.
Rocki Sanchez, Brochu’s real estate agent, expressed utter shock and disbelief at the situation, stating that she had never seen anything like it before. Sanchez also believes that Brochu may be the victim of a strange scam and shared the missing driveway on a Facebook group for realtors, with multiple people coming forward to say they’ve seen similar incidents occur.
Now, Brochu is under pressure to replace the driveway in order to sell the home within two weeks, or else she will lose the property she is under contract to buy nearby. With the recent investment she made in replacing the roof, Brochu is worried about getting the $10,000 needed for the project.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the driveway theft, but has not yet commented on the incident. Brochu is now struggling to sell her house without a driveway, and worries that the missing driveway will bring down the property’s value, causing difficulties for her and her family.
