Flushing town Hall Announces a Vibrant Fall & Summer Season of arts and Culture in Queens

A diverse lineup of events, ranging from a celebration of comic art to free jazz concerts and immersive culinary workshops, will transform Flushing Town Hall and surrounding queens parks into hubs of creativity throughout the remainder of 2025. The programming, announced today, underscores the organization’s commitment to fostering artistic expression and community engagement.

Celebrating Sequential Art: an Open Call for Comics

From July 11th to September 5th, 2025, Flushing Town Hall will host an open call exhibition, “Comics in the City: Sequential Art Is…”. This initiative invites comic book artists,writers,and cartoonists across the New York City metropolitan area to submit their work and explore the meaning of sequential art. Recognizing New York City’s pivotal role in the birth of mainstream comics, the exhibition aims to showcase the talent of local creators.

Queens Jazz Trail Brings Legendary Sounds to the Borough

This summer and fall, music lovers can enjoy the free Queens Jazz Trail Concert Series, bringing the borough’s rich jazz history to life in community parks. On August 7th, 2025, Kim Clarke & Friends will perform at Travers Park in Jackson Heights, offering a vibrant experience inspired by the iconic Queens jazz Trail Map. Clarke,a versatile bassist,composer,and bandleader,will showcase her signature sound alongside her ensemble.

The series continues on August 28th, 2025, with a performance by the acclaimed Mingus Big Band at Archie Spigner Park in Jamaica. Founded in 1991 by Sue Mingus, the 14-piece ensemble honors the legacy of Charles Mingus with dynamic arrangements and electrifying performances. the band’s latest release, The Charles Mingus Centennial Sessions Vol. 2, dropped in 2024 on Candid Records. The Queens Jazz Trail Concert Series is a collaboration between Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College,Flushing Town Hall,the Louis Armstrong House museum,and NYC parks.

Community and Artistic Collaboration Take Center Stage

Flushing Town Hall will host a Summer Artists Celebration on Thursday, August 7th, 2025, at 6:00 PM.This event will celebrate the organization’s 2025 grantees and provide a platform for artists, cultural workers, and organizers to connect, share resources, and explore collaboration opportunities. Attendees are encouraged to bring promotional materials for an on-site resource table. RSVP is required.

Jazz Jams and Culinary Adventures Enhance the Cultural Landscape

For jazz enthusiasts, Monthly Jazz Jams will continue on Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, at 7:00 PM.Open to professional musicians, students, educators, and serious hobbyists, the jams provide a space for improvisation and collaboration, featuring a house band led by Carol Sudhalter. A Steinway baby grand piano and drum kit are available for use.

On Sunday, August 17th, 2025, at 11:30 AM, attendees can participate in Sizzle! Cook, Taste, Connect: Asian Foodways Workshop. Led by Professor Yi-Nian Lee and New York Cultural Ambassador Dr. Hsing-Lih Chou, this hands-on workshop will focus on making okonomiyaki and mai zai jian, offering a cultural experience through the joy of cooking and storytelling. Spots are limited, and early registration is encouraged.

Encore Broadway Queens Offers Musical Theater for Older Adults

Flushing Town Hall is partnering with Encore Creativity for Older Adults to offer Encore Broadway Queens, beginning August 20th and running through December 10th, 2025. This program provides adults 55 and over with the chance to explore the magic of musical theatre, meet new friends, and sing show tunes in four-part harmony. Encore Creativity is the nation’s largest choral arts organization for older adults,creating meaningful arts experiences that support lifelong learning and wellness.
