Following US and European sanctions: UN takes sharp step against Russia

by time news

The UN General Assembly, which has 193 member states, will convene next Thursday to hold a vote on the United States’ proposal to suspend Russia from the organization’s human rights council, a number of diplomats said today (Wednesday).

Following the diplomatic crisis created around the war between Russia and Ukraine, Washington sought to suspend Moscow from the UN Human Rights Council based in Geneva.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, many sanctions have been imposed on it by Western countries. In addition, restrictions have been imposed on oligarchs who are considered close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
