Football: an assistant referee receives a cup of beer behind the head, the match Bochum-M’Gladbach stopped

by time news

There are games stopped elsewhere than in Ligue 1 … The stupidity of certain supporters also reached Germany this Friday evening during the match between Bochum and Borussia Moenchengladbach which opened the 27th day of the Bundesliga. The match was stopped by the referee in the 71st minute as Moenchengladbach led 2-0 thanks to goals from Frenchman Alassane Pléa and Embolo. Bochum supporters threw beer cups from the stands at Christian Gittelmann, one of the assistant referees in the game.

The latter was hit in the back of the head which initially led to the interruption of the match for more than twenty minutes, the referees having immediately left the field. The Bochum players then tried to calm their supporters down. But after a period of hesitation, the announcer logically announced that the match was definitively stopped, the referees not wanting to resume it.

A few minutes later, the two clubs immediately condemned the incident on their social networks. The Bochum club apologized to the targeted referee and underlined “their embarrassment at an extremely stupid gesture”. But he will not escape sanctions.
