The incident of Abhirami, a graduate student in Shastamkota, Kollam, who was saddened by the installation of a Kerala Bank confiscation board in front of his house, committed suicide is a painful incident. Abhirami’s father Ajikumar is an expatriate who lost his job due to the KVID situation.

Had some grace period been granted, the family would have repaid the loan amount. Banks should adopt a more humane approach considering the special post-Covid scenario. Financial institutions including Kerala Bank, which is touted as Kerala’s own bank, should be prepared to suspend the foreclosure proceedings for the time being.

Abhirami was a brilliant student who scored A+ in all subjects for SSLC. A family’s hope is shattered in a moment. There should never be another like Abhirami. It is requested that appropriate steps be taken from the government in this regard.
