The number of foreclosures on habitual residences stood at 2,697 in the second quarter, which represents a decrease of 16% compared to the same period in 2022. However, in relation to the previous quarter, the number of foreclosures on habitual residences decreased has increased by 6.1%.

This is reflected in the mortgage foreclosure statistics published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), whose main objective is to offer quarterly the number of certifications of mortgage foreclosures initiated and registered in the Property Registries during the reference quarter, where it remembers that Not all foreclosures end with the eviction of their owners.

In the second quarter of the year, 5,386 mortgage foreclosures were initiated, 26% less than in the same period of 2022, but 4.2% more than in the first quarter of the year. Of them, 5,100 affected urban properties (which include homes) and 286 affected rural properties.

Mortgage foreclosures on urban properties fell 25.5% year-on-year in the second quarter and rose 3.3% compared to the previous quarter. Within urban properties, 3,677 executions corresponded to homes, 21.6% less than in the second quarter of 2022 and 0.4% less than in the previous quarter.

In the housing group, 3,260 were about homes of natural persons (-16.7%) and 417 were about residences in the name of legal entities (-46.3%).
