Thrikaripur: Traders said that the demand for foreign fruits increased during Ramzan and the market for local fruits decreased. V.V. Yunus, a fruit trader in Thrikaripur, said that foreign fruits like lychee, beer, plum and dragon fruit have taken over the market and the reason for the slowdown in the local fruit market.

Plum is the star in terms of price and sales at Rs 340 per kg. Litchi is also in high demand. Its price is Rs 280 per kg. Both types of dragonfruit shine in the fruit market. Beer, a foreign item, costs between Rs 260 and Rs 280. Strawberry, Kiwi, Avocado, Shamam etc. are also active.

Foreign varieties of fruits like apples, grapes, melons and oranges are also in high demand. People love apples from Turkey, Iran and France. The sweet Foreign Globe grape variety is priced at Rs 300 per kg.

Kiran, Vishal and Mridula varieties are at the forefront of the watermelon market, which is active with the heat. Sherrad, D.K. Along with other grape varieties, green grapes sell the most. Currently, the most popular variety of oranges bought during Ramzan is the mandrin, which comes from China, Thailand and Singapore. Besides, citrus also shined in the Ramzan market at Rs 100 per kg. Traders also say that there has been a huge decrease in the number of buyers of local fruits like mango, pomegranate, jackfruit and papaya.
